Environmentalism is Everything To ME

Garbage Dump

Most people are well aware that the Earth has undergone much greater climate change in its several billion year history than it is experiencing now. Our planet has had many ice ages in the past and will obviously have many more eventually in the future. There are still some people who ignore the fact that we are undergoing any change at the moment. They think it is "fake news" that the ice sheets up north and down south are disappearing. And there are many others who do acknowlege these basic facts but claim it has nothing to do with us humans and it is just a natural progression of our Earth's climate.

But a great many of us do realize that humans have had a major impact on this progression. Sure, our planet has undergone much greater change than we are experiencing now. And sometimes it has happened very quickly because of extreme circumstances that were caused "naturally". Like when the asteroid killed off the dinosaurs. But normally any climate change occurred over thousands, even millions of years.

So I do agree that some of the current climate change is because of the natural rhythm of the climate. But we as a people are undoubtedly greatly speeding the process up. In just a few hundred years we have clearcut much of the world's forests and replaced them with asphalt, concrete, hog farms and billions of us destructive people. How can that not have a major impact on the CO2 level and other negative symptoms?

But there are many other forms of grotesque pollution that we are perpetuating. We are killing our vast oceans in many ways. We should be at war with the onslaught of plastic in all forms. The idea that bottled water is still allowed even in areas like ours that has clean tap water readily available is disgusting and unbelievable to me.

I am also disgusted in most electric cars, especially Teslas and other luxury models. I thought it was a typo when I first learned that a Tesla battery is five hundred kilos. Just the thought of 1200 pounds of chemicals such as lithium, cobalt, manganese, and more for each vehicle is revolting. Then when you hear how much destructive mining is required to harvest these chemicals it is heart breaking. The only electric vehicles being produced should have much smaller batteries. But people want luxury and speed if they are spending so much money on a car.

Hopefully we are soon able to come up with a much better, cleaner and cheaper energy supply, but I am afraid the reality is that it is already too late to avoid the much greater calamity that is in our immediate future. I believe humans will survive but in a much grimmer and less populated situation than we have now, in the not too distant future.

As far as the dreaded carbon tax goes, I am neither for it or against it. Many countries have a carbon tax, including the entire European Union, so it is tiring to hear people talk like only the Liberals are so horrendous to do such a thing to us. Same with the covid mandates. Almost all countries had similar mandates yet to hear some people only our Liberals were so evil to impose them on anyone. The whole world handled covid poorly. We are the smartest creatures on earth, yet in many ways the dumbest.

While I do think our enviornment should take precedence I am also very much fiscally conservative and prefer small government, small taxes, and pay down the debts of all governments. When I first joined the Green Party a few decades ago they claimed to be a centralist party with their number one financial concern to be paying down that astronomical debt. But the likes of Elizabeth May have turned it into an inconsequential left wing party.

Pledge your support to me now in any way you see fit, so that it will give me some confidence to keep fighting the good fight. Thanks.
